# SMS Setup

Set up texting in Cymbal: request your marketing phone number, connect a custom domain, and add the DNS records for your text subscription form.

To send texts from Cymbal, you complete **Texts** setup in onboarding. You'll enter your business details, choose your marketing phone number, and connect a custom domain for your text subscription form.

Texts setup saves its own progress. You can leave and come back to it, and pausing it doesn't affect your Email or Ads setup.

## How to set up texting

Go to the [Texts](https://manager.cymbal.co/text) tab and select **Get setup**. If you're already in the onboarding wizard, continue to the **Texts** part.

Enter your business details exactly as they appear in your legal documents: registered business name, Tax ID (EIN), and business address, plus your business email.

Under **Your marketing phone number**, choose **Register a new phone number** or **Port an existing phone number**. This choice is for US businesses. See [Phone Number Registration](/help/setting-up-cymbal/sms-setup/phone-number-registration.md).

Review your information, confirm the details are correct, and select **Confirm and continue**.

On **Add a custom domain**, select **Add your domain** and enter your domain. A custom domain is required to meet the TCPA requirement.

On **Add DNS records for your text subscription form**, add the records shown to your domain provider. These records publish the opt-in form carriers require before they approve marketing texts. **Next** stays disabled until every record is live. After you finish, the Texts tab shows **We're getting you a number** while your number is being registered. Until the number is **active**, Texts stays on the empty **Get setup** state. Once your number is active, Texts shows your campaigns and automations, and **Inbox** appears in the sidebar.
