# Phone Number Registration

Request your marketing phone number in Cymbal: register a new number or port a US number you already use.

To send texts through Cymbal, you need a registered phone number first. You request it during Texts setup, where you can register a new number or port a US number you already use.

## How to request a phone number

Go to the [Texts](https://manager.cymbal.co/text) tab.

Select **Get setup**.

Enter your business information exactly as it appears in your legal documents: registered business name, Tax ID (EIN), and business address. Incorrect details can lead to rejection and delays in getting your number.

Under **Your marketing phone number**, choose one:

* **Register a new phone number**: Cymbal registers a new number for you. On the next screen, enter a preferred area code if you have one, or leave **No preference**.
* **Port an existing phone number**: enter your current provider and the US number you want to move to Cymbal.

This choice is for US businesses. Canadian businesses go straight to the preferred area code screen.

Review your information, check the box to confirm the details are correct, and select **Confirm and continue**.

Finish the rest of Texts setup, including your custom domain and DNS records. See [SMS Setup](/help/setting-up-cymbal/sms-setup.md).

After you finish, the Texts tab shows **We're getting you a number** until your number is registered. Campaigns and automations stay hidden on Texts until that number is **active**.
