How to Fix "Your Meta Ad Account Has Disconnected"

Error message

“Your Meta ad account (ID: 1234567890) has disconnected.”

This means Cymbal no longer has permission to access your Meta ad account. This usually happens when Meta permissions change, the account is moved, or access expires.

The steps below walk you through reconnecting your ad account safely.

Why This Happens

According to Meta, ad accounts can disconnect when:

  • Permissions change on your Meta user or business

  • The ad account is moved to a different Business Portfolio

  • The ad account is paused, closed, or deactivated

  • A third-party integration (like Cymbal) needs to be re-authorized

This is common and fixable.

Step-by-Step: How to Reconnect Your Meta Ad Account

Step 1: Log into Meta with the correct profile

  1. Go to Facebook / Meta and log in.

  2. Make sure you’re using the profile that has admin access to:

    • The Business Portfolio

    • The ad account showing as disconnected

If you log in with a different profile, Meta may not show the same businesses or ad accounts.

Step 2: Reconnect Meta Inside Cymbal

If Meta shows your ad account as disconnected, you’ll need to refresh Meta’s authorization by reconnecting it in Cymbal.

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Cymbal → Organization Settings

  2. Click Integrations

  3. Scroll down to Ad Accounts and select your Meta ad account

  4. Click Disconnect, then click Connect with an ad account

  5. Select your Meta Business account

  6. Select the Meta ad account you want to reconnect

This process refreshes Meta’s authorization and restores Cymbal’s access to your ad account.

Tip: Make sure you’re logged into Meta with a profile that has admin access to both the Business account and the ad account.

Step 3: Confirm the ad account is active

If an ad account is inactive, Meta will block access.

  1. Open Meta Ads Manager

  2. Look for:

    • Account disabled notices

    • Billing or payment issues

  3. If prompted, follow Meta’s steps to reactivate the account

  4. Once active, return to Cymbal and reconnect again

Step 4: Make sure the ad account is in the correct Business Portfolio

Sometimes the ad account exists — just not in the portfolio you selected.

  1. Open Meta Business Settings

  2. Go to Accounts → Ad accounts

  3. Confirm which Business Portfolio owns the ad account

  4. In Cymbal, select that same Business Portfolio

  5. Retry the connection

Step 5: Add the ad account to your Business Portfolio (if missing)

If Meta shows no ad accounts, you’ll need to add one.

  1. In Meta Business Settings

  2. Go to Accounts → Ad accounts

  3. Click Add

  4. Choose one option:

    • Create a new ad account

    • Add an existing ad account (using the Ad Account ID)

    • Request access to an ad account

  5. Once the ad account appears in Meta, return to Cymbal and reconnect
